CAREER HISTORY&MEDICAL EDUCATION
Dr. Walén is a certified anaesthesiologist, intensivist and specialist in the treatment of pain in Sweden, Norway and Great Britain. After finishing medical studies, he worked as a resident and a junior consultant in a number of clinical settings in Sweden (Norrlands University Hospital, Umeå, Sunderby Hospital, Luleå). His intensive postgraduate specialization training in interventional pain therapy, regional anaesthesia and nerve blockades as well as paediatric anaesthesia and intensive care was completed in Sweden, Denmark, USA, and the UK.
Since 2007, Dr. Lars Walén has been working at Norrlands University Hospital in Umeå, Sweden, where, as a leading anaesthesiologist, he occupies one of the chief positions at the central orthopaedic operating unit. In the field of interventional pain management he focuses his competence on treatment methods and techniques of minimally invasive and endoscopic procedures. Between 2008 and 2009, Dr. Walén concentrated on anaesthesia during total surgical replacements of knee and hip joints, spine surgery, and general surgery at Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre, UK.
